The song we are spotlighting is the first track titled 'Plasma'. The song kicks off with a groovy and punchy bassline before exploding into a psychedelic and garage experience. The vocals, guitars, drums, and bass create a vibe as if they're about to explode at any second. The song features vocal harmonies with great reverb, adding to the psychedelic feel, along with a great overdrive effect. The mix in this song is very solid, and the performance is incredible - the song has a sweet drive to it, makes us want to drive along the valley in a convertible while blasting this (one day!). Uncola is having their EP release party on April 5th at the Monarch Tavern in Toronto. Their latest release is the EP “Cold, Not Cute”, and the song we are featuring is the title track of the EP. The song has everything we love in music - overdriven vocals, catchy and crunchy guitars & bass, and drums that power through the entire 2 minutes and 34 seconds. Most importantly, the song has a slick lead synth line that plays throughout the choruses, and it's the total hook for this song. The entire EP is like this, and it is one of our favorite releases so far of 2024. The guitar tones, especially, sound like they are an homage to Albert Hammon Junior.

The vocals are distorted, and Frankie Boyle has a unique tones that layers over the pop indie rock sound. This band really kicks it with a perfectly constructed and fresh sound that's much needed in the Canadian punk scene. The standout track, entitled "Survy", packs a powerful punch with its sinister baselines and bright guitar tones and delays that give it a total retro post punk surf feel. This is truly a fresh sound, containing many great elements needed to energize a mosh pit at a underground DIY event.

Critical Zerotag:critical-zero.com,2005:Post/72108712023-05-17T16:34:02-04:002023-11-30T22:06:24-05:00BLOOD ORANGE - I'M SORRY WE LIED

SPOTLIGHT

“ a throwback to the 80s new wave movement”

Blood Orange was born in Essex and transformed his career in New York City. It's a breath of fresh air in the world of music, with its cleverly constructed sound that brings to mind the early strokes. The guitars take center stage in this track, with their tone and texture adding depth to the music. The vocals are also worth mentioning, with their gritty UK sound that adds an edginess to the overall vibe of the song. What sets "Demagnetized" apart from other tracks is the lyrics.
