“The crowd was mesmerized and loving every single bit.”
We have been doing music and show reviews for a few years now and we’ve been introduced to some incredible music. Our good friend and amazing photographer Jack Martin told us about a band called L.A. Witch, and we were immediately hooked. Since then, we have reviewed a few of their tracks, including one of our favourites “The Lines”. When we found out they were going to be in Toronto we knew it was a must-see show.
This was our first time at Longboat Hall, a venue connected to the Great Hall right at Dovercourt Rd and Queen St W. We took the TTC and a short walk away was the venue! We made it in time to catch Daiistar, who is the supporting act in part of this tour and we were immediately hooked to their sound. The band had a raw energy with synths, heavy guitars, melodic bass lines, and so much more. We spoke to them after their set and found out they’re from Austin, Texas. It makes total sense as many of the bands featured on Critical Zero are based out of Texas, they make good music down there!
In the packed crowd there were many familiar faces including friends from the scene and photographers we’ve seen at various shows - we’re all a big family at this point.
The anticipation was building and it was finally time for L.A Witch to hit the stage. Immediately wow - we were hit with a wave of psych and raw rock and roll. We’ve heard their music and watched videos of their performance but this was different, the band really takes you on a trip. To top things off, the band added a touring synth and guitar player adding to their raw dynamic.
L.A. Witch means business, with a commanding stage presence, psychedelic lights, and fog creating a magical experience. They played many of their hits, including our favourite “The Lines” released under Suicide Squeeze Records which we got video of. The band is tight and powered through song after song making it such a memorable experience - the crowd was mesmerized and loving every single bit.
The sound was incredible and the atmosphere of the venue fit the band perfectly. We recommend seeing them live and we will definitely be there the next time they are in town. Thank you to L.A. Witch and their team for having us, and Longboat Hall for being super welcoming.
Check out L.A. WITCH, NOW!!!
