“You can always expect a good time at the Bovine and find community in music.”
We had one of the most special nights at the Bovine Sex Club, and it was one of our favourites. Dog Party all the way from California, were joined by Toronto locals Black Budget as well as Christy Costello and Rad Owl from Minnesota.
We had never met the bands but we've heard their music and love their sound. Christy Costello kicked off the night with one of the most complete and layered performances we've seen at the Bovine. They had horns, 3 guitars, drums, bass, and of course, Christy's incredible vocals - an incredible way to kick off the night. Rad Owl took the stage shortly after, and they also had a wild and full sound. There were parts where the band harmonized, and it sounded like they had an orchestra backing them up. It was really incredible to see. Super punk, rowdy, and a ton of fun.
After Rad Owl, Black Budget took the stage - it was a high-energy energy fuel-fueled performance as usual. One of the standouts was Pedro's T-shirt, which you must see in the photos. The shirt was sent by our friends from California, Death Lens, and proceeds go to CHIRLA which is the largest immigrants rights organization in the United States. Dog Party took the stage, and we were all immediately blown away. For a 2-piece, the sound is massive with great dynamics and instrumentals. The vocals are next level, wow! The sisters have an incredible vocal connection, and their voices sound perfect together. Fun fact - the first time Dog Party performed in Toronto was at the Bovine, years ago! The crowd moshed, danced, and celebrated. The audience then chanted for 1 more song, and Dog Party played an amazing rendition of X's Los Angeles.
We met many great people, everyone was friendly, and the vibes were so good. You can always expect a good time at the Bovine and find community in music.
